Hello All Potterheads!

I, SpaceMan, am your host once again here at the Harry Potter Fan Club NYC. Today we are exploring a topic that has Potterheads all over the world abuzz. We’re talking of course about “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” the new play on Broadway!

About the Play

We’re starting at the beginning by showing you how the website for the production describes itself. Here’s an excerpt from the “About” page of

“Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne. This epic two-part event brings one of the most iconic characters of our time to life on stage – now as a husband and father of three – with his friends still by his side. Cursed Child sends the imagination soaring with awe-inspiring theatrical wizardry – the likes of which have never been experienced until now.”

“New York Times” Review

Since we’re based in New York, NY it only makes sense to give the #2 spot to the “New York Times.” Here’s a portion of what had to say:

“Part of the generation-crossing appeal of Ms. Rowling’s novels lies in her ability to give operatic grandeur to the most universal and pedestrian hopes and fears — feelings harbored by anguished adolescents of all ages — by placing them in a wildly fantastical context. (In this sense, her fiction resembles that of Stephen King.) And this show more than honors that dichotomy.”

“Variety” Review

Now we’ll examine a tidbit from One of Hollywood’s rags,

“Once you get past the sensory (and commercial) blandishments and the show begins, it’s clear that director John Tiffany and his wizard designers have answered the big question: What can the theater do for the story of Harry Potter that the books and movie treatments haven’t done? In a word, the theater has brought its own brand of wizardry to the material. Visually and aurally, the show presents a panorama of dazzling effects that draw audible gasps from the audience.”

“USA Today” Review

It’s time now for to speak:

“For readers who stayed up all night to pore through the brick-sized books, the show’s five-plus-hour run time (over two nights) is only fitting. Our favorite characters (now adults and parents) all show up, and just as in the books, they’re different enough to show they’ve grown over the years, yet are exactly the same in their habits and hearts.”

“Hollywood Report” Review

And last here’s another Hollywood publication,, speaking their piece:

“The time-travel effect is a marvel of deftly deployed lights and video that yields a big wow moment, prompting a surge of anticipation whenever it’s about to occur. But what’s most satisfying is the way the story expands as it trips back and forth between past and present to revisit much of the known Potterverse.”
